LESSON OVERVIEW

Video 11: Advanced Interest Research

  • For performing interest research, It could be associations, foundations, federations, societies, clubs, forums, websites, blogs, magazines, newsletters, authors, Amazon bestseller titles, events, festivals, conferences, competitions, state and city specific topics, and even subscriptions.
  • When doing interest research, don't just simply type in the easiest word you can think of and just go from there. Dig a little deeper and you look through these types of categories.
  • You can go to amazon.com and you can even go to Google and start typing in and get some suggestions. You can use the display planner in Google AdWord Keyword Planner and come up with suggestions for placement. You can use Wikipedia, etc. There's a lot of ways you can find more interests, but using these broad targets gives you an idea of what you could search for.
  • For example, if you're in real estate, you could type in real estate associations in Google and find lists of different associations and see if they come up in Facebook as potential interest to target, same can go for foundations and federations.
  • Take the time to research and pick interests that aren't as obvious.  The less obvious, the less competition.  The most obvious interests and keywords have the most competition.

LESSON TRANSCRIPT

David (00:01):

Everyone welcome back in this video, I'm going to show you how you can target broader interests. I'm not just talking about picking the simplest words out there and choosing them as interest, and then that's it, you know, and I'm going to target the, the biggest words I can find on Facebook. Now it has nothing to do with that. I'm simply opening your eyes to more options when it comes to developing your targeted interests and coming up with that power list of interests that you plan to target when developing your Facebook ads, campaign.

David (00:38):

Now, what are some broad targets? I'll look at it this way. It could be associations, foundations, federations, societies, clubs, forums, websites, blogs, magazines, newsletters, authors, Amazon bestseller, titles, events, festivals, conferences, competitions, state, and city specific topics. And even subscriptions. There are so many options out there. And a lot of people don't consider all of these different possible broad targets. When they're doing their interest research, they just simply type in the easiest word that they can think of and just go from there. But if you dig a little deeper and you look through these types of categories, you can go to amazon.com. You can go to even Google and start typing in and get some suggestions. You can use the display planner in Google and come up with suggestions for placement. You can use Wikipedia. There's a lot of ways you can find more interests, but using these broad targets gives you an idea of what you could search for.

David (01:44):

For example, if you're in real estate, you could type in real estate associations in Google and find lists of different associations and see if they come up in Facebook as potential interest to target, same can go for foundations and federations. It's just a simple keyword. And then adding the rest. Let's say, you're looking for real estate events, same thing you can type in real estate events. And then you'll find real estate events all throughout Google that you can then search in Facebook as interest. So remember, take the time to research and pick the best interests. Take your time when you're doing your research. There's no reason to rush. I actually spend several hours and so does my team spend several hours just looking for interests after we've done client research, how else are we going to find the best possible interests around the web? If we don't take the time, sometimes your best interests. Aren't the ones we're looking for. You just got to take the time. You probably weren't looking for them in the first place. So take the time to search around the web. Use some of the suggested broad targets I provided to you. And you never know. They may appear a suggested interest while you're searching within Facebook power editor. So take the time, do deeper research and use the broad targets I provided to you to find those hidden gems all throughout the Facebook ad platform.
